Satan Hates Marriage

Throughout Scripture, God uses marriage as an analogy of His love for us. God created us for friendship with Him. His plan is for us to share in His divine life for all eternity. Everything that God created is good; it was created out of love. God created man and woman, instituting marriage as a sacrament to bless them. Through marriage, He commanded them to be fruitful and fill the earth.

One of His creatures, an angel, rebelled out of envy of us. Through “the devil’s envy death entered the world” (Wisdom 2:24). Because the devil couldn’t defeat God, he went to battle with the creatures that God loved most, human beings created in His image and likeness.

Satan hates what God loves. He hates you. He hates your marriage. He hates families. In his rebellion against God’s plan for our salvation, Satan seeks to destroy marriage and family.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. John 10:10

Satan was defeated by the death of Jesus on a wooden cross more than 2,000 years ago. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus has made abundant grace available to us. That grace is available through all of the sacraments, but especially to husbands and wives in the Sacrament of Matrimony. Ask God to give you the grace to resist the attacks of the evil one

Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking some one to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experience of suffering is required of your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, establish, and strengthen you. To him be the dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 5:8-11

Satan hates those committed to the marriage covenant because they can do the most to further the Kingdom of God. The future of the Church passes through the family. If Satan can destroy families, He can destroy God’s Church. Satan also hates those in ministry in support of marriage and families. He attacked our ministry computer a couple of weeks ago, destroying a hard drive and all the data on it. This attack happened as we were putting the finishing touches on the video series Marriage Through the Lens of ScriptureWe have been born into a battle and the family is where the focus of his attack.

Satan has one tactic: he tries to convince us that we cannot trust God; that God is holding out on us, that He really doesn’t love us. He puts doubts in our minds about the loving goodness of God. This is the tactic that he used against Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and it is the tactic he has been using ever since. He sows division in our marriages and families. He does everything he can to tear families apart. To defend against the attacks of the devil, we must take up spiritual weapons to fight his fiery darts.

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we are not contending against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the equipment of the gospel of peace; above all taking the shield of faith, with which you can quench all the flaming darts of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:11-17

Please pray for this ministry as we work to build strong and holy marriages. Satan is not happy with the work we are doing. Our stand for strong families has attracted the ire of the evil one. Take up the sword of the Spirit, the Word of God, and pray Scriptures for your family and this ministry. These actions will place the shield of faith over your family, protecting them from the devil’s schemes.

“I have said this to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
